False Claim of Pakistani Flag being Burned in Kurram District Exposed

A recent social media post claimed that local terrorists in the Bagan area of Kurram district burned the Pakistani flag in broad daylight. However, this news is completely false and misleading. The incident described in the post did not occur in Kurram district or its Bagan area in recent days. Instead, it appears to be a distorted version of an old incident.

The actual event took place on August 16, 2016, at the Torkham border crossing, where Afghan protesters demonstrated against Pakistan and burned the Pakistani flag. This protest was held on the occasion of Afghanistan’s 97th Independence Day, and the protesters chanted anti-Pakistan slogans and pelted stones at the Friendship Gate, damaging its windows.

The protest turned violent when the protesters snatched the Pakistani flag from nearby Pakistani protesters and set it on fire. The Pakistani protesters were demonstrating against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial statement on Balochistan. Following the incident, the border was closed, disrupting NATO supplies and trade traffic.

Security forces exercised restraint to control the situation, and additional FC personnel were deployed to tighten security at the border. Spreading unverified information on social media can create confusion and mistrust among the public. It’s essential to verify the facts before reacting to or sharing such content.
