Fake Video of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Debunked

Claim: A video is going viral on social media, claiming that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed regret over the absence of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan during his recent visit to Pakistan and expressed his desire to meet him.

The video shows the Turkish President addressing, with a translation in the background stating: “Greetings to all my Pakistani brothers and sisters, Pakistan is a country very close to Turkey, and I have many memories associated with it. Last time I visited Pakistan, Imran Khan welcomed me, and today Shehbaz Sharif is leading the country as Prime Minister. I wished Imran Khan was also present among you today, and I could have met him.”

However, according to Fact-Check Dog’s investigation, the viral video and its translation are fake. The actual facts reveal that the video is not recent but five years old, dating back to February 13, 2020, when President Erdogan visited Pakistan. At that time, Imran Khan was the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and President Erdogan addressed him during his historic speech at the joint session of the National Assembly on February 14, 2020.

During his recent visit (February 2025), President Erdogan did not address the National Assembly, nor did he comment on Imran Khan. The viral video presented an old speech out of context, with a fake translation.

Details of the Turkish President’s recent visit: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a two-day visit to Pakistan on February 12-13, 2025, where he met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari. During the visit, 24 agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed between Turkey and Pakistan. Notably, President Erdogan did not address the National Assembly this time, making it clear that the viral video falsely linked the old speech to his recent visit. #Fakenews #Pakistan #Turkey
