Viral Rumors about Broiler Chicken and Deadly Virus Proven False

Claim:

A rumor is rapidly circulating on social media claiming that a deadly virus has been found in broiler chickens. People are being urged to consume only lentils and vegetables and to completely avoid chicken. A photo of a sick chicken is being shared alongside the claim to further fuel fear and anxiety.

Reality:

Our Fact Check Team conducted research to verify the authenticity of this claim. The investigation revealed that both the image and the accompanying story are old and fabricated. Through a Google reverse image search, it was discovered that the image has been online since at least 2015 and is related to a case of bird flu reported in India.

Further investigations also found that a similar rumor had circulated in Pakistan in 2023, alleging that broiler chickens had become deadly due to bird flu. However, at that time, relevant authorities had confirmed that the news was false. The spokesperson for the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Islamabad, Sajid Hussain Shah, had clearly stated, “No cases of bird flu have been reported in Pakistan.”

Conclusion:

Investigations have confirmed that the social media claims regarding the presence of a deadly virus in broiler chickens are false. The public is advised not to believe in unverified information and to refrain from spreading rumors on social media. Always verify any news through credible sources and avoid creating unnecessary panic. For safety, ensure that chicken is thoroughly cooked before consumption to eliminate any potential risks.
