Gwadar Airport’s Success Contradicts Western Media’s Misinformation Campaign

Claim: A false propaganda campaign has been carried out by international media against a key @CPEC_Official project, jointly developed by Pakistan and China. Indian, American, and European media channels, including @cnni, @AP, @VOANews, @timesofindia, and @firstpost, labeled Pakistan’s largest airport, “New Gwadar International Airport,” as a failed project.

On February 24, @firstpost ran the story with the headline: “GWADAR AIRPORT STANDS EMPTY WITH NO PLANES & NO PASSENGERS”. Whereas the report further stated: “Gwadar’s $240 million airport was supposed to bring prosperity. Instead, it stands empty—a symbol of China’s grip and Pakistan’s betrayal. Built entirely with Chinese money, it serves Beijing’s ambitions, not Balochistan’s people.”

Indian media replicated the same report without any modifications, amplifying the narrative and linking it to @CPEC_Official’s so-called failure.

Reality: This claim has been proven false and baseless. Investigations by Fact-Check Watchdog confirm that New Gwadar International Airport is fully operational with regular flight activity. Every morning, business travelers, students and expatriates frequent the airport. Domestic and international flights continue as scheduled.

On January 24, 2025, the airport facilitated its first international flight to Muscat (Oman). On the same day, PK-503 arrived from Karachi with dozens of passengers and PK-504 departed back to Karachi at 2:00 PM. Furthermore, in just one month, the airport handled 42 flights and 1,537 passengers, directly refuting the misinformation spread by international media.

Conclusion: It is evident that this propaganda campaign was part of a broader effort to undermine @CPEC_Official’s credibility. However, the facts paint a different picture. The unverified and politically motivated reporting by certain international media outlets contradicts journalistic ethics. The public must be vigilant and refrain from accepting international media narratives at face value without verification.
